Born in Chicago, IL, SHERI KLEIN, PhD began her formal studies at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts where she studied with Hollis Sigler. She continued at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where she studied with a wide range of influential artist-teachers: Ray Yoshida, Barbara Rossi, Karl Wirsum, and Christina Ramberg, Robert Skaggs and many visiting artists. She earned a BFA and MFA in Painting and Drawing. During her student years, she developed a strong interest in folk art, outsider art, and Surrealist art.

Her education continued at the Vermont Studio School, Banff School of Art, The University of Georgia, Athens and Indiana University, Bloomington where she earned a PhD in curriculum and instruction in art education. At Indiana University, she studied with Drs. Enid Zimmerman, Gil Clark and Guy Hubbard and began a thirty year career of teaching art education at numerous universities and art schools.

She was a Core Fellow at the Glassell School of Art (Houston, TX) and is the recipient of numerous grants and awards for her art, teaching, research and professional contributions that include the honor of Distinguished Fellow of the National Art Education Association.

Her artistic works have been exhibited at many non-profit and university art galleries and major art museums including the Art Institute of Chicago and the Albright-Knox Gallery, Buffalo, NY.

As a widely published author, her academic research has focused on visual art, art education, holistic education, reflective practice, and arts-based professional development.

Her ongoing studio practice focuses on painting, collage, mixed media visual journaling and small mixed media sculptures.
