    INSTRUCTOR: Sheri Klein, PhD, MFA is a visual artist, educator, researcher and author with many years of research experience using qualitative, arts-based, self-study and mixed methods. She has published a wide range of articles and books on her research and research methods. In addition, she has taught graduate level research and visual journaling courses. Her own research has integrated visual journals with a focus on exploring questions related to the intersectional areas of professional practice and that extends her interests in the areas of reflective practice, professional development, and artistic inquiry.

    This unique online workshop is an opportunity to join a community of artists, educators, researchers and seekers who are interested in learning about the visual journal as a research tool to explore issues of professional practice.

    • LIMITED TO 10 PARTICIPANTS

      AUDIENCES: All levels are welcome. This course is relevant for graduate students, those who teach graduate research courses, and others who seek to learn more about how to create and use visual journals in research.

      OVERVIEW: This workshop will explore:

    • Basic components, materials and processes of visual research journaling

    • Prompts—creating your own and sampling field tested promptsMixed media processes for creating imagery and text

    • Creating found poetry and collage using your visual journal

    • Using arts based research methods for interpreting text and imagery

    • Using your visual research journal for reflection and goal setting

    REGISTRANTS:

  • Participation in the workshop Zoom sessions is for registered participants only.

  • Registered participants will receive a supply list and details of sessions.

  • Participants will be responsible for gathering and/or purchase of a journal and 2D media.

  • Completion of exercises in between weekly sessions is required.

  • Workshops are delivered through Zoom.

  • Laptop or another reliable device is needed to access workshop.
    REFUNDS: Refunds will be provided for cancellations that are 72 hours or more prior to the beginning of the workshop. No refunds provided after the workshop begins.
    RECORDINGS: The sessions will not be recorded; no participant recording of sessions.
